First day of kindergarten

The first day is an extremely important and emotional event for both children and their parents. It is a day that will certainly bring many questions to mind: “Will they like it?”, “Will they cry?”, “Will they adapt?”, “Will they like the teacher?”. Worry is completely normal, but it should not be shown to children, so as not to negatively influence their mood.

To make this day a happy one, we advise you to present the kindergarten to your child in advance as a relaxing place where children play, learn new things, meet, and make friends. Before your child starts kindergarten, establish a proper sleep schedule and get them used to having breakfast at the time they will have it at kindergarten.

This way, they will not feel disoriented or think that their daily routine has changed. If they have a favorite item, such as a toy, blanket, or pillow, you can place it in their backpack to provide a sense of comfort. The teacher can gradually remove the item once the child begins to feel relaxed around others.

At separation, don’t forget to remind them that you will see each other again at lunchtime or in the afternoon and go home together. Do not rush the goodbye at the kindergarten door, but do not prolong it with too many hugs either. And remember to stay calm and optimistic, because a child can easily sense negative reactions from adults.

Do not sneak away and resist the temptation to return once you hear them crying. They are in good hands. Always show your child that you are proud of them and do not hesitate to ask questions about how their day was, whether they liked it, and what their classmates are like. Don’t forget to encourage and appreciate them constantly.

Create a special place at home where, throughout the year, you can display all the diplomas, successful projects, or drawings your child makes at kindergarten. This way, they will understand that their work is important and that you are proud of them.
